Lisa Derr llderr@derrlaw.com 920-885-5549 and 262-334-1810 Self-evaluation: "I have had a private family law mediation practice for 12 years with an office in Beaver Dam and an office in West Bend since 2006. I am listing the counties in which I have actually mediated divorce cases: Dodge, Washington, Fond du Lac, Jefferson, Green Lake, Sauk (1 or 2), Waukesha (2), Columbia and Dane. This month, I will try my two last cases as an attorney and thereafter 100% of my caseload will be as a mediator. Most of my referrals have not come from attorneys but rather through word of mouth, radio and phone book. I have also worked for 6 years as one of the Washington County independent contractors in public custody mediation cases and often receive cases that involve domestic violence issues. I have given statewide training with Perri Mayes on domestic violence issues to allow compliance for mediators with ACT 130. Our office also provides internet/phone conferencing where one client is out of state but both clients can view and discuss documents on my desktop at no extra charge. We have done a significant number of multi-million dollar divorces as well."
Dane County area:
Rated: Judge Angela Bartell "Having appeared in front of her a handful of times in Dane County in years past in a number of different family law cases, I always found her analysis to be intelligent and fair, regardless of whether the outcome was to my client’s favor or not. She has a good way with speaking to litigants, too – such that they understand what she’s saying, in my observation." Judge Angela Bartell (now retired from Dane County ) is available for mediation and arbitration. Her contact info is as follows: Bartell Dispute Services, 3442 John Muir Dr . , Middleton , WI 53562-1183 , Phone: (608) 233-6262, email: abbartell@aol.com /// Judge Bartell's self-evaluation: "Experience. Neutrality. Diligence. Judge Angela Bartell Bartell Dispute Services, 3442 John Muir Dr. Middleton WI 53562-1183, Tel. 608.233.6262 abbartell@aol.com Judge Bartell is a veteran, retired Dane County Circuit Judge with more than 30 years of experience trying civil (personal injury, medical negligence, real estate and business disputes), probate and family cases. She served as Chief Judge of the Fifth Judicial District (Dane, Rock & Lafayette Counties) for six years; taught evidence and civil trial procedure at the Wisconsin Judicial College for 10 years; and served as its Associate Dean for six years. With the consent of the parties, Judge Bartell has been an innovator in settling disputes, including mini-trials with expedited evidentiary rules and binding settlement conferences. Her knowledge of the settlement value of civil and family cases is based upon literally thousands of contested matters, both jury and judge trials. Judge Bartell serves as a reserve judge for the State of Wisconsin, and offers mediation, arbitration and valuation services. Her efficiency and experience result in final resolutions in a reasonable and fair manner." "I am hoping to utilize traditional mediation techniques in family law disputes, but also hope the parties will agree to arbitration, should they be unable to reach a full agreement. That way, the money they spend will incorporate their own agreements, but will result in a final disposition of all issues."
Attorney Diane L. Mader: Self-evaluation: "I do mediation and think it is fair to say I am considered talented, as well as fair and reasonable! I mediate traditional and nontraditional family cases as well as probate and business disputes. I also contract with the US Postal Service to do employee mediation and have mediated other business employee/supervisor issues. I also do co-mediations from time to time with Ken Waldron, Cathy Kriss and Marlin Kriss. They are terrific mediators. I can be reached at 608 836 7667." Dave Leeper daveleeper@gmail.com 608-238-1255 Self-evaluation. "I mediated custody disputes for many years and for several counties before I left Wisconsin in 2000. I have mediated over 200 custody cases. I have recently returned to Madison and I am practicing law and mediation as Leeper Law and Mediation. I am willing to travel and my fees are quite reasonable- in comparison to many. I enjoy mediation and I am looking forward to starting up again. I am teaching a graduate course on Conflict Mediation and Negotiation: Theory and Skills. I will be back by the end of April 2008. I practice a process and relational mediation as opposed to more evaluative mediation. It works for most, and works very well for some."

Also Jerry Nelson at Center for Effective Living in La Crosse offers a 4 session course on high conflict parenting and has done some Hi C mediation thereafter. The class is $240 per parent. Mediation extra.
"I don't do high conflict mediation. Kimberly Erickson-Nichols might, as does Jim Lageunesse. There is some dispute regarding what exactly high conflict means, and I agree that most court-referred mediation cases are by their nature "high conflict." Our mediation office, Bonnie Sacia and Mary Geske, are skilled at doing this, and will offer parallel or concurrent mediation, as well as phone mediation, in cases where there is a history of either violence and/or significant power and control differentials. They have to pass an initial screening however to determine if mediation is appropriate or should be bypassed. Contact me off-list for more info." Kip Zirkel

It was two lawyers and two therapist. We were far ahead of the curve and mediation as a concept in Family law was frightening. I have continued to provide mediation service which include the party and counsel, or just the parties. I have found when mediating placement issues more is accomplished when the parties are here alone and then confer with counsel at the conclusion. Depending on the desire of the parties I will either use a facilitative approach or an evaluative approach. I will at the request of counsel do early issue evaluation, where counsel present by offer their theory of the issue which is creating the impediment. I will after hearing both comment by way of opinion the strength of the argument or legal position or evidentiary problems. I bill for mediation at the rate of $250.00.If you have any other question please let me know."

Carlton Stansbury, 414-359-9100, cstansbury@burbach-stansbury.com. I have only used him in a Waukesha County case. Approach is facilitative, but gets evaluative when needed. We have not been billed yet, and I cannot recall what rate we were quoted.
